Appointment at Piazza San Pietro
Appointment in St. Peter’s Square, in front of St. Peter’s Basilica, with its dome and monumental facade dominates the scenic double colonnaded portico, masterpiece and heart of the Catholic Church, rich in priceless works of art such as the Pieta by Michelangelo and the sumptuous Baldacchino by Bernini.
Castel Sant’Angelo
Walking along Via della Conciliazione, which ideally connects the Vatican State to the Italian State, you arrive at Castel Sant’Angelo, an archaeological site, fortress and prison. It was a pontifical residence and is now a museum.
Sant’Angelo Bridge
Crossing the magnificent bridge of Sant’Angelo, you will continue the tour along the famous Via dei Coronari, which takes its name from the sacred objects, today is known to be the street of antique dealers: shops full of objects and furniture of all kinds follow one after the other, giving the passer-by the feeling of living in another era. It is impossible not to be carried away by the curiosity of entering one of these ancient shops even if only to peek among the most bizarre ornaments.
Piazza Navona
Proseguendo, raggiungeremo Piazza Navona, la più elegante, punto di ritrovo per romani e turisti. Situata al centro della piazza, la Fontana dei Fiumi, una delle massime opere del Bernini, è decorata con figure umane che simboleggiano i grandi fiumi dei quattro continenti noti in quell’epoca: il Nilo, il Danubio, il Gange ed il Rio della Plata. Proseguendo, raggiungeremo Piazza Navona, la più elegante, punto di ritrovo per romani e turisti. Situata al centro della piazza, la Fontana dei Fiumi, una delle massime opere del Bernini, è decorata con figure umane che simboleggiano i grandi fiumi dei quattro continenti noti in quell’epoca: il Nilo, il Danubio, il Gange ed il Rio della Plata.
Pantheon and the Temple of Adriano
Il prossimo capolavoro da ammirare durante il vostro tour di Roma: è il Pantheon. Perfettamente conservato, è difficile credere che la struttura sia stata terminata nel 128 d.C. dall’Imperatore Adriano. Al l centro della piazza si trova una fontana rinascimentale progettata intorno al 1575 da Giacomo Della Porta. Poco oltre si trova il Tempio di Adriano costruito in onore dell’Imperatore. L’edificio era, in passato, conosciuto erroneamente con il nome di Tempio di Nettuno.
Trevi Fountain and Piazza di Spagna
Reaching Via del Tritone and following it as far as Via dei Due Macelli, the walk will end in Piazza di Spagna which, with its Trinità dei Monti staircase and 135 steps, seems to climb towards the sky. In the centre, the elegant Fontana della Barcaccia, sculpted by Bernini (Pietro and Gian Lorenzo).
